About

Hi there!

I’m Joseph Arthur DeLong. I’m a writer, visual artist, and software developer from north central West Virginia. I’m a creator of worlds, although not perfect ones.

When I write, I mostly go for speculative hard Science Fiction. Those really big stories that ask the question “What might the world be like if…?” I’m interested in telling human stories —specifically, the stories that explore why we are the way we are.

Some of my favorite authors include:

  • Isaac Asimov
  • Frank Herbert
  • Iain M. Banks
  • Brandon Sanderson
  • Patrick Rothfuss
  • Walter Mosely
  • Stephen Baxter
  • Zenna Henderson
  • Madeline L’Engle

When I create visual art, those works generally fall into one of three categories:

  • The physical 3D (sculpture)
  • The physical 2D (sketches and prints)
  • The virtual 3D (objects, buildings, and environments)

When I work, it’s mostly as a technology services and systems modernization consultant. In my spare time, I also dabble in Web development, application and code library design, and video game development.
